Kirkhope Aviation Newsletter June 2012

Hi all……here is a short update on this years progress and activities

Lake Eyre trips:….AVAILABILITY IN JULY AUGUST….don’t miss out

We have been doing our Lake Eyre trips……so far they have been typically very successful. The flood waters are not as extensive as previous years but the scenery is still stunning. The Goyder Lagoon is still very green and the water has been flowing down the Diamantina into the Warburton Groove and into Belt Bay. The top of the Lake is basically dry and the bottom around Belt Bay and Jackboot Bay are well covered.. We think this is often a better sight as you see some of the salt lake as well as the colours of the water. Water is still coming down the Cooper Creek, however we are still unsure whether it will reach the Lake. If it does it will pour more water into Madigan Gulf on the South east corner. Our tours include Innamincka, Birdsville and the famous 4WD ridge top tour at Arkaroola and this gives a great diversity to the trip.

We hope to keep these tours going through July and August so check out the website for available dates as there are many options and availability. Check our website for dates.

Google the Lake Eyre Yacht club website and you will get more detail on the flooding of Lake Eyre. The actual site is http://www.lakeeyreyc.com/Status/latest.html#

Lake Gairdner and the Gawler Ranges

We have only completed a few of these 4 day trips to Lake Gairdner in the Gawler Ranges which would include 2 nights at the terrific “Kangaluna” Bush camp, a visit to the huge salt lake of Lake Gairdner, a swim with the sea lions at Streaky Bay and a night on Kangaroo Island. It is now too cold to pursue these trips , particularly the swim, and so we will try for more later in the year It is a great alternative for those who have done the three day Lake Eyre trip. We are hoping to add the Prairie Hotel at Parachilna in the Flinders Ranges to this trip as it is stunning.

12 day Kimberley, Arnhem Land and the Gulf

We are still keen to promote our trips to places like Kimberley Coastal Camp, Faraway Bay, The Bungle Bungles, Mornington Wilderness and Davidson’s Safari Camp . Let us know if you are interested..
